eduStyle Labs Ad
Finished up practicum with designing a couple ads for the eduStyle lab page which just needs a bit more tweaking before it’s ready, so I’ll probably try and still finish that up still, but other than that I’m done my hours! Time: 3 hours 30 mins

eduStyle Certificates
We talked a bit about what we’ve been working on before Stewart had to leave, but some winners from last year requested their certificates for winning last year awards. So I had to change the certificates, and ad a sponsors logo for a couple different schools and categories. Time: 2 hours

eduStyle Awards Deadline
Today we worked on getting out the newsletter reminding people today is the last day to submit for awards and received loads of submissions. Then we took some screenshots of some mobile sites to add to the mobile awards category. Then I did submissions for the rest of the time. Time: 4 hours

Newsletter and PDF
We figured out how to group some of the awards into categories and decided we should put a link on the awards page that links back to the eduStyle homepage. Then I image-mapped an image in Dreamweaver in a html document that we will be sending out to the eduStyle users announcing the awards. I also used the reduce file size feature in adobe acrobat to shrink a 7.8mb file to a 1.6mb file. Time: 2...

Awards Sponsorship & Banners
Worked on finding contact information for potential sponsors for the eduStyle awards, useful tip to finding companies is by finding events that have a similar idea to yours and see who they got to sponsor them. This way you know who is receptive to sponsoring as well as who has the budget to sponsor events. Then I made ads to put on the eduStyle site promoting the awards in 3 different sizes. ...

Portfolio Proof of Concepts and Div Layout
My design for my portfolio homepage is complete, so today I spent time figuring out the way I want my navigation to function. I found this useful resource that includes css3 (that degrades gracefully when not supported) the first example on this page is similar to how I want my navigation, except I flipped the arrow to be underneath and animate on hover as well as sped up the effect. For my front...

eduStyle Awards website and Shay Carl
Started converting last year awards site over to 2010, updating some images and some text from 2009. We also talked about who we could ask to guest judge the eduStyle awards and did a little research on some “famous” webdesigners. We also updated ShayCarl.com, and expecting an increase in traffic once Shaycarl mentions the site in a video. Time: 4 hours

Capstone Coding
Spent this morning starting to code my design, I have the background repeating nicely as well as a repeating header that looks like a sidewalk crack with a textured logo overlaid. I left off getting elements in the body to properly align, using css and div tags. You can check out my splash page on Chalk4Change.com. I also setup google analytics, which was fairly straight forward. I still have most...

Merrimonsters Etsy Feed, CSS3 and Process
We worked on merrimonsters.com, getting the etsy feed to automatically feed in images and then customize the look with CSS3. We looked at CSS3 effects that are useful and degrade nicely, which is cool because you might not have to rely on Photoshop and images as heavily to create buttons. Then Cody (Stewart’s brother) came in and we discussed how they plan on streamlining the design process for...

eduStyle Labs Navigation and Hosting Issues
So I started getting the div tags and style for the jQuery navigation going, right before media temple (our host) went down. Downtime is inevitable, but it makes you wonder about picking reliable hosts. If you are using any server side language to work, you are pretty much hooped for productivity for the day. Imagine that if you have client deadlines to meet or demoing products to clients and...

eduStyle submissions
We sent out the March newletter via campaign monitor, which is fairly easy because the content pretty much automatically changes within the code, we just tweak some things. We caught up on eduStyle submissions today, so we are finally up to date! It’s good experience working with user submitted content and learning the value in automating processes. It’s crazy when something like...
